In order to minimize potential problems and allow for a smooth workflow with your PDF files, we have a set of guidelines we would ask you to follow.
(1) The position of the prelims, chapter drops, part titles etc, should be correct and a consistent page setup used throughout the job.
(2)
Head & Back margins should be correct in the document, if any change is required at the imposition stage this should be clearly indicated on the order.
(3) All blanks that appear within the book should be included.
(4) Save the pages at the final trim size.
(5) If the job contains bleeds ensure that the document size allows for this.
(6) 'All fonts' must be embedded.
(7) Do not specify rules below 0.25pt in weight.
(8) All fonts used in imported illustrations should also be embedded.
(9) Always Distill PostScript files to PDF or Export to PDF, use of the Adobe Acrobat PDF writer application or Open Source solutions such as GhostScript are not recommended.
(10) Distill files using the MPG Books Settings (download from the file creation page).
(11) Use the Adobe Distiller ppd to create your PostScript file.
(12) If you are using low resolution images in your document (below 120 dpi for mono, below 200 dpi for CMYK) please let us know when supplying the job so that we do not have to go through the process of obtaining authorisation to run with low resolution images.
(13) Save mono files as 'greyscale'.
(14) Save colour files as 'composite cmyk'.
(15) Ensure any unwanted colours are deleted from CMYK jobs before saving to PDF.
(16) Convert RGB or LAB colour images to CMYK or Greyscale before saving to PDF.
(17) If Spot colours are not required please convert to CMYK before saving to PDF.
We strongly recommend the use of preflight software to check files before sending. Or use our online preflighting software to check and upload your files to our FTP server, the client to download can be obtained from the customer zone of our website.
